Congratulations! Your daughter just got engaged.
Once the elation wears off, you’ll probably be struck with the moment of panic that most moms feel….What am I going to wear? Of course your next thought is, “not until I lose (insert magic number) lbs.” Well ladies, let’s just bask in the excitement and take the pressure off.
Precious Memories offers the following tips to make it a stress-free and FUN experience.
- Start early! We suggest 1 year in advance. That may sound excessive but consider that ordered dresses may take 5 months to come in. Add 6 weeks for alterations, and that brings you to 6+ months. Now wouldn’t it be fabulous to sit back and relax the months leading up to the big day? Of course that also leaves you plenty of time to lose those pesky lbs.! The downside to waiting too long is that you may be limited to what stores have in stock. Really….that rainbow colored tiered drop waist or matronly pantsuit is all that’s left?
Precious Memories has stylists to help you every step of the way. We are here to find the dress that exemplifies the amazing woman that you are no matter the size or shape. Appreciate this special time and let us help you with the whole experience from the dress to the shoes and jewelry.
- Style? Color? Where do you start? Well it is the bride’s big day, but let’s face it; you put years of hard work in to get her there. You deserve some of the spotlight too, but don’t hog the stage!
Discuss the bride’s vision and choose a dress that compliments it. Think of the venue – outdoor wedding at sunset or ballroom of the Four Seasons? In addition you should fit in with the overall style – simple or blingy? If the bride is in a simple lace gown, do you really want to steal the show in head–to-toe sequins? The final consideration is the color scheme. There are traditional rules (no white, black or red) but we’re not living in the dark ages! If your daughter loves you in that beautiful lipstick red dress, go for it! When choosing a color, many moms like to pick a color in the same color family as the wedding party. You don’t have to “match” as much as compliment the bridesmaids.
-
It may seem like you’re hemorrhaging money right now, but don’t skimp on yourself! We see far too many moms who spend all their time and money on their daughters and are simply stuck with whatever is left for them. By all means, set a realistic budget and try to stick to it. We have dresses to fit any budget!
- Trends – like most things these days, there are no hard and fast rules that the mother must follow (see #2 above) but we do see certain trends that are popular for mothers right now.
- Pastel and neutral colors are hot. Champagne and versions of gray are favorites for any season!Lace is a big trend; a little or a lot, you decide.
- ¾ or sheer sleeves, a godsend for those who wish to cover their arms.
The idea is to be comfortable on the big day and find something that you love! Precious Memories is here to do just that. Keep the above points in mind, but you have enough stress in your life! Don’t let the thought of dress shopping send you into a full-blown panic. In fact, make a day out of it. Invite those whose opinion you trust to come along, and of course take time to celebrate with a cocktail after you find the perfect dress…..You deserve it!
